Tip of the Day: 7-21-2012

Are you someone who is too busy (or too lazy) to exercise regularly? Or are you someone who does not have a gym or any kind of workout equipment at his/her disposal?

Well, what if I told you that there are a few little changes you can make in your life that require very little time and effort? All you need is yourself! Ok, are you ready for these?

1.  For those of you who have access to a car and drive/park places, park towards the back of the lot.  By doing this, you get free exercise by walking farther to your building/destination.

2.  When faced with the choice between taking the elevator or taking the stairs, unless you are wearing six-inch stilettos, ALWAYS TAKE THE STAIRS.  This will give you a nice cardio workout, as well as help to build leg muscles! :]

3.  If you live on campus at a college and do not have a car, or even if you do have a car, walk to as many places as possible.  Walk to all of your classes, and if you have a gap, walk back to your dorm between classes.  Walk to the grocery store or restaurants if they are close enough.  And instead of meeting your friend at the on-campus Starbucks for frappucinos and girl talk, meet your friend at the Rec center for gym, swimming, rock climbing, zumba, etc and girl talk! Trust me, you’ll be more willing to work out if you have plans to meet a buddy there.  No more saying “ahhh…I’ll do double tomorrow”.  Also, be sure to see what free classes your rec center offers.  I know mine offers free zumba, kickboxing, guts butts and thighs, yoga, and more.  I’m sure most campuses offer the same.

4.  Watching a movie or television does not have to be a non-active activity.  And no, I do not mean changing the channels.  While watching, you could be doing ab or butt squeezes.  During commercials, you could do many exercises as well, from crunches to jogging in place.  Or, if you want to make a game out of it, try any of these movie/tv show workouts!  My personal favorite is the Gilmore Girls workout :]

And trust me, all of these ideas work! For instance, I have lived on campus for over 2 years, without a car.  And when I’m home for breaks and do have a car, I do the parking tip.  Wanna know a secret? Just by following these quick and easy tips, not only did I avoid the Freshman 15, but I ended up losing weight and gaining muscle :] So it really does work!

Ciao~
